The objective of this dynamic report is to provide insight into the challenges faced by young people in Latin America when it comes to entering the labor market and to develop personally and professionally through lifelong learning. We believe that the productive and cultural development of the region requires significant changes in the situation of young people.
We want to understand and seek the best approaches to accompany them. To this end, this report seeks to compile and make available the main indicators on young people, poverty, education, and use of technology in the region.
Based on a selection of this data, we have also created an index that allows us to prioritize the countries that could benefit most from the methodology and programs developed by Forge.
We invite you to go through the different indicators and select the variables that interest you most.
Prioritization of countries
(key indicators)
The following table shows the model developed by Fundación Forge to identify the priority countries, where the program is necessary, functional, and has the best conditions to be implemented. The indicator weights 5 key indicators, relevant to the success of the initiative of Forge:
1)Youth in urban areas: our program is designed for urban areas. Young people from rural areas need a different type of intervention. Therefore, a greater concentration of young people in urban areas means a greater number of people who could benefit from our program.
2)Youth neither working nor studying: Forge seeks to help young people find a better future through work and educational continuity.
3)Unemployed young people: the programs of Forge help young people to aspire for successful labor market integration as the best way towards the development of their life project.
4)Households with internet access: Forge decided to transmit its training experience using digital technology. This requires a minimum of connectivity. Therefore, areas without internet access are not the most suitable for our type of intervention.
5)Youth with intermediate education: the program does not replace secondary education. Rather completing secondary education is a requirement for our program, because our initiative complements and enhances it.
A sixth element of weighting are political/institutional conditions. If a territory is in a situation of extreme institutional severity (e.g. war, state violence or prohibition of NGOs), the context is not appropriate for Forge to develop its intervention. We will come to this conclusion, even if the other indicators show a high score.
